Almost 30,000 people receive humanitarian aid from Saving Lives project

Over the past two months, 28,105 people have already received assistance from the Saving Lives humanitarian initiative. The donations from almost 70 companies across the world helped the project deliver 1,644 tonnes of packages to the war-affected areas of Ukraine, including food, basic essentials, hygiene products, and medicines for hospitals.

Of these, 650 tonnes were delivered to a distribution centre in Zaporizhia, 532 tonnes came to Kryvyi Rih, 255 tonnes to Kamianske, and 207 tonnes to Dnipro. The distribution centres form humanitarian aid packages and send them to the cities, towns, and communities that need immediate support. Thus, the humanitarian cargo has already arrived at Lozuvatska, Hleuivatska, Shyrokivska, Karpivska, and Novolativska communities in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, as well as at Petrivska community in Kirovohrad Oblast. SCM’s initiative is also helping people in the area of active hostilities in Donbas. The Saving Lives project has already delivered 13,000 food packages to residents of Pokrovsk and 6,000 kits to Avdiivka.

The initiative focuses on helping socially vulnerable people such as large families, single mothers, disabled children, IDPs and families affected by the war. One of the key short-term goals of the project is to provide humanitarian kits to 100,000 Ukrainians monthly. With the help of donors, the Saving Lives project has already gathered €749,000 – almost half of the required amount.

Also, the initiative uses these humanitarian cargoes to build up strategic food reserves for the front-line cities and towns if the situation with supplies worsens. To this end, the key donors of the project, Metinvest and DTEK, have already allocated €5.26 million out of the €6.2 million required.

The humanitarian initiative’s activities were highly praised by the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the civil-military administrations of Donetsk Oblast and Avdiivka, and Zaporizhia City Council.
