Metinvest delivers flour to four communities in Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad oblasts

The humanitarian hub at Central GOK has shipped six tonnes of high-grade wheat flour. This aid will support IDPs that currently live in Karpivka, Hleiuvatka, Lozuvata, and Petrove communities.

They are now hosting nearly 2,500 displaced who live in shelters or private houses. Most of them only have temporary jobs, so they live on government benefits and humanitarian aid. Metinvest has started regular supply of food products as part of the Saving Lives project and provision of targeted assistance from Kryvyi Rih-based businesses of the company to support IDPs and vulnerable groups.

Volunteers of the humanitarian hub based on site of Central GOK have recently handed out 2,000 three-kilogramme packages of flour to the community residents. High-quality food products will be used to bake bread and cook other dishes for IDPs living in collective centres. People living in private houses will access the aid as well.

"We have distributed the flour right away among the displaced currently residing in our community. They are about 150 now. Others returned to their liberated villages, as our community was home primarily to residents of Kherson Oblast. The families were grateful for this timely support, and they would definitely have pancakes for the Butter Week. In these difficult times, partner support is needed more than ever, and Metinvest's actions speak louder than words," says Yevdokia Sazhevska, Secretary of Karpivka Village Council.

To identify the needs of communities and coordinate the flour distribution, Metinvest has partnered with Kryvyi Rih Foundation for Future NGO. Earlier, the organisation helped coordinating accommodation efforts for the IDPs in communities. At that time, Metinvest sourced building materials, beddings, household appliances, crockery, cutlery, utensils, and other essentials.

"In the wartime, Metinvest Group has focused on supporting the national economy, helping the army and civilians. Central GOK is widely engaged in these three areas, while continuing to meet its premium iron ore production and shipment targets and support the operation of the humanitarian hub. Its employees do not stop volunteering, in addition to their duties. They formed 135,000 food packages under the Saving Lives project, prepared and sent 35,000 packages of baby food, collected and handed over around 7,000 sets of warm clothing for conscripted company employees, and distributed 6 tonnes of flour among local communities. The most vulnerable, the displaced, the retired employees and our colleagues who defend Ukraine today feel cared about and looked after," said Dmytro Shevchyk, General Director of Central GOK.

In November 2022, Metinvest handed over 10,600 tonnes of flour to local communities to help IDPs. In January 2023, the company formed and handed over 3,500 food packages at the Central GOK humanitarian hub to support large families in Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions.
