More than 300,000 Ukrainians receive assistance from Saving Lives initiative

Every day more and more Ukrainians benefit from Saving Lives initiative. As of now, 303,600 people have benefited from the project implemented by Metinvest in concert with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
Since the outbreak of the full-scale invasion the civilized world has supported Ukraine in its resilient fight against the Russian aggression. The Saving Lives initiative was launched by Metinvest in concert with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation in the very first days of the war. The project helped join the efforts of Ukrainian business and international partners.

The donations transferred to the Do It Together Foundation of the Saving Lives project amounted to €2,149,964 in total. As a result, 303,600 people have received humanitarian assistance from the project.

AID IN NUMBERS
Overall, 3,999 tonnes of humanitarian aid have been delivered to special distribution hubs in Ukraine: Zaporizhia – 1,823 tonnes, Kryvyi Rih – 1,053 tonnes, Kamianske – 549 tonnes, and Dnipro – 524 tonnes.

The assistance is collected in Poland and then sent to Ukrainian distribution hubs to be further distributed in the regions where it is most needed. The project priorities include: provision of food, hygiene kits and essentials to people, and medicines, consumables and equipment to medical facilities and hospitals.

Waiting for survival kits

The most vulnerable people receive food packages as these goods are in high demand. For example, these are Metinvest employees who have children aged under 18 or disabled children; families of conscripted employees or those injured in the line of duty, retired staff with a record of long service, unemployed retirees, etc. In early autumn more than 102,000 food packages were formed in the hubs. They are distributed between residents of Metinvest shelters, newly liberated and front-line areas, in particular in Avdiivka, which is constantly exposed to shelling.

Just before the cold season arrived, in addition to food packages, hygiene kits and essential goods Saving Lives project provided warm clothes to IDPs.

In October, the company decided to expand the programme and give out food packages to Zaporizhia utility workers. Over the week, around 9,000 employees from 18 utility companies received food kits with sugar, cereals, pasta, oil, canned food and condensed milk. Thus, Metinvest supports people who always come first to help local residents: it brings power back to households, restores damaged houses, and repairs roads after missile strikes.

Saving Lives cares about little Ukrainians, too. Recently, Metinvest in concert with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has purchased 14 tonnes of baby food. This humanitarian assistance will come to the perinatal centres of Odessa and Donetsk regions. Every newborn kit includes several boxes of baby formula that can last for a month. The first batch of assistance has already departed from Metinvest’s humanitarian distribution centre in Zaporizhia. Overall, 13,000 new mothers will receive humanitarian aid from the company.

We support Ukrainian doctors

The designated medical institutions of Zaporizhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Kamianske receive regular assistance from Saving Lives. Humanitarian aid, including medicines, consumables and equipment, comes to the cities and towns where Metinvest operates, thus helping to perform timely high-tech surgical procedures for the wounded.

In particular, Saving Lives has bought an X-ray transparent operating table, an expert-class anesthesia breathing system, a video laryngoscope, an electric dermatome and other important equipment for surgeons in Kryvyi Rih. Now Ukrainian doctors will be able to save more lives of our soldiers and civilians injured during hostilities.

AID IN NUMBERS
Since the all-out war began, Saving Lives has provided assistance to Ukrainian hospitals for a total amount of around €240,000, enabling our doctors to help more than 70,000 people.

To date, 189 companies from around the world have joined the humanitarian project, including Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, the USA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Greece, the UAE and other countries. Recently, the ALDI supermarket chain has become a new partner of the project. To engage more donors, Dario Srna, a Saving Lives ambassador, called on the Champions League clubs to join in helping Ukrainians. Metinvest’s employees also join the humanitarian initiative by donating to the Do It Together charity foundation.
