More and more international partners join the Saving Lives humanitarian project launched by Metinvest Group in concert with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation every day. The organisation has recently signed a new memorandum of cooperation with POLAND4YOU, a foundation based in Poland.
At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine faced a humanitarian catastrophe. Facing enemy bombardments and logistical disruptions, thousands of civilians found it hard to access food, water, basic necessities, medical care, and medicines.
To support Ukrainians in these dire times, the Saving Lives humanitarian project headquartered in Poland went into action from the first days of the war. Poland hosts two hubs that collect aid from the entire Europe and then send it to Ukraine.
AID IN NUMBERS
Over eight months of the war, assistance from Saving Lives has reached more than 300,000 Ukrainians. The donations transferred to the Do It Together Foundation of the Saving Lives project amounted to €2,149,964 in total.
To date, 189 companies from all over the world have supported the humanitarian initiative of Metinvest and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. POLAND4YOU is a new partner of Saving Lives. The memorandum of cooperation was signed at the humanitarian hub located in Warsaw.
“War always brings loss and grief, but it also reveals strengths of a person. Russian Federation’s all-out war in Ukraine has not only revealed the courage of the soldiers, but also the humanity and mercy of ordinary people. Thousands of Polish people have responded to the pain of Ukrainians and are helping us with everything they can. Today, we are taking another step to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the support they need. On behalf of all Ukrainians who have been receiving assistance for more than eight months, I want to thank every volunteer and every empathic Pole. We are confident that Ukraine will definitely win thanks to you and a wide international community,” said Oleksandr Vyshniakov, head of the Saving Lives humanitarian project.
The humanitarian hub in Warsaw is one of the biggest centres in the country that has been supporting Ukrainians since March 2022, in particular, by providing shelter to war victims. As part of the new partnership between POLAND4YOU and Saving Lives, residents of the centre will receive non-perishable foodstuffs that will better their diet, making it more adequate and nutritious.
“Our heart is full of pain when we see what Ukraine is going through. Thus, we don’t just sit and watch, we take action to support Ukrainian civilians. The food packages provided by Saving Lives will suffice to feed our residents for a long time. Currently, around 1,200 people are staying here, mostly women with children and the elderly. We plan to host 200 children from the orphanage in Kryvyi Rih and their guardians. The humanitarian hub is ready for this challenge thanks to the help of our foundation, UNICEF and other NGOs. Our goal is to make people feel safe and secure. I hope that the residents of the centre, as well as other Ukrainians who have to stay away from home, will be able to return to their normal life as soon as possible,” said Bogdan Krzysztof Kozyra, the Board Chairman of POLAND4YOU Charitable Foundation.
