Maternity houses in Donetsk Oblast receive 5,000 baby food packages from Saving Lives

The Saving Lives humanitarian project implemented by SCM businesses in concert with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has delivered 5,000 baby food packages to maternity hospitals in Donetsk Oblast.Given the proximity to the front line and the scarce supplies of the essentials, this aid is critical for babies born in the region.

About a hundred babies are born in Donetsk region every month despite the war, according to Natalia Kovalenko, a spokeswoman of Donetsk Regional State Administration. Unfortunately, severe psychophysiological disorders caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation result in many premature births and pathologies in women. Thus, the need in formula feeding is growing, and support to new parents is essential.

Every hospital with a maternity house in Donetsk Oblast receives such packages. The aid has already reached Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk communities.
In particular, a batch of 1,000 baby food packages arrived at Pokrovsk perinatal centre where 11 women are currently staying. Unfortunately, the number of births has halved since the beginning of the year: 400 babies were born here. In this difficult time, such assistance is very important to new parents, experts of the centre say.

Pokrovsk Deputy Mayor Marharyta Idrisova thanked Saving Lives and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for their support.

“We have received baby food from our long-standing partners and have already given it to our new mothers to mark World Children’s Day. We are very grateful to Metinvest and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for their unwavering support of Pokrovsk community and help they provide to all its residents, including newborns,” she said.

The Saving Lives humanitarian project launched by Rinat Akhmetov’s businesses in March provides regular assistance to people in the frontline areas. Food packages, hygiene products, and medicines from the initiative have already reached hundreds of thousands of people, including socially vulnerable categories, IDPs, etc. The scope of the assistance is growing. The project enjoys support of about 100 international partners.
