Saving Lives and Ukraine Prosthetic Assistance Project sign a memorandum of cooperation

The Saving Lives humanitarian project founded by Metinvest Group in concert with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has made a memorandum of cooperation with Protez Hub, prosthetic assistance project in Ukraine.

The MoC between Saving Lives and the prosthetics support project in Ukraine will focus on two areas - providing prosthetic treatment for Ukrainians who lost limbs because of the war, and creating an online educational platform for limb prosthetists and other rehabilitation specialists, which will be available in the Ukrainian language. The memorandum was signed for two years and can be extended.

NEW PARTNER

The Ukraine Prosthetic Assistance Project was founded with the assistance of the world famous organisation ProsthetiKa. It gives counsel to victims and assists prosthetists with components to improve the functionality of prostheses. The project's team includes consultants from across the globe. The project has already trained 400 prosthetists and helped more than 100 patients.

The Saving Lives humanitarian initiative and the Ukraine Prosthetic Assistance Project will take care of organisational issues and documents related to prosthetic treatment. Currently, 18 people are undergoing prosthetic treatment at different stages, including eleven Metinvest's employees, five military and two public utility employees from Pokrovsk. The programme includes preparation for prosthetics, installation of prostheses and follow-up services in Ukrainian clinics, as well as physical and psychological rehabilitation.

In addition, work is ongoing to develop an online platform that will provide opportunities for continued education for prosthetists and rehabilitation professionals who help people with amputations. Specialists are making educational videos, and the platform is scheduled for launch in February 2023.

The educational platform seeks to give a broader and more systemwide understanding of the needs of a person who has lost a limb; improve provision of limb prosthetics treatment and other rehabilitation services; and understand the path ahead of the patient with an amputated limb, from the moment of injury and until this patient with amputation is back home.

COMPREHENSIVE ASSISTANCE

The Saving Lives humanitarian project was established by Metinvest Group in concert with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. It helps Ukrainians with food, essentials, and medicine, and provides hospitals with medicine and equipment. Also, the project helps with prosthetic treatment of Ukrainians affected by the war and rehabilitation of employees, including war veterans, their families, employees and their children.

"This memorandum is a part and parcel of our joint programme for prosthetic treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainians. Unfortunately, the number of those who have lost limbs as a result of hostilities will grow. It is difficult for a person to figure out where to turn for help and what kind of help is needed. Therefore, this project will serve as a guideline for victims who can be treated by professional prosthetists with international expertise. Together we can do more to ensure Ukrainians receive the latest prostheses and return to normalcy," said Oleksandr Vyshniakov, head of Saving Lives.

In early December of 2022, Saving Lives announced its intention to introduce a large-scale programme for prosthetic treatment and rehabilitation of military and civilians of Ukraine.
